Marvel: 5 Characters That Might Join Guardians of the Galaxy 2

We know Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is coming in 2017, and that Chris Pratt is set to return for at least one other sequel after that. What we don’t know for sure is what new characters will be showing up in the next film.

James Gunn — writer and director of the first Guardians of the Galaxy — recently answered a question over Twitter about which superheroes he would like to bring to the big screen. His answer was that he will be introducing his favorite superhero in the next Guardians film.

What Characters Might We See in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

Gunn sure knows how to drum up the hype! It got us thinking, what character could he be talking about? Who might we see in the upcoming Guardians 2? We put together a list of characters that serve as great candidates.

1. Moon Knight

Moon Knight

Marc Spector is a formidable mercenary who hones his skills and later becomes the hero Moon Knight. His backstory is actually pretty long and complex, starting with the fact that he’s the son of a rabbi whose family escapes from Europe in the 1930s to steer clear of the Holocaust.

When night falls, he gains superhuman strength, endurance, and reflexes. Sometimes during a full moon he has prophetic visions of the future which offer him a great deal of knowledge. Because of this, he also has an immunity to most psychic attacks.

2. Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock

The most likely candidate is Adam Warlock (he’s the one in the center of the picture above). In the Marvel comics, Warlock is always around when there’s a storyline about Thanos and the Infinity Gems. In fact, it seems odd that we haven’t seen him onscreen already, especially with Infinity War in such close proximity.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, Warlock showed up around 2008 and stuck around for a good while. He eventually becomes one of the most powerful members of the team.

Plus, something that looks very similar to Adam Warlock’s cocoon actually shows up in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s in the collector’s stash.

3. Nova (Richard Rider)

Nova in Guardians

In Guardians of the Galaxy, we were introduced to the Nova Corps and their homeworld Xandar. During the battle against Ronan though, many of the Nova Corps forces were killed.

In the books, Richard Rider (Nova) is the last known survivor of the Nova crew and has superhuman abilities like enhanced strength, flight powers and resistance to injury, not to be confused with fast healing.

4. Mantis

Mantis in Guardians

Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy only has one female member. It definitely needs more. Mantis would be a great fit, who has a bevy of powers at her disposal. She’s telepathic, an expert in martial arts, and can analyze her enemies to find their weak points nearly instantaneously. Other than Carol Danvers — Captain Marvel — she’s one of the strongest females in the series.

Her telepathic powers also allow her to see the future, which is something that could come in handy against Thanos.

5. Jack Harrison (Jack Flag)

Jack Flag Guardians of the Galaxy

Jack starts out his superhero career helping Captain America — it’s possible he’ll show up in Civil War, who knows? During that event in the comics, he’s paralyzed and taken captive by the Thunderbolts — a group of supervillains who side with Tony Stark.

Later in the books, he joins the Guardians of the Galaxy who are able to repair his back, restoring his movement. After being healed, he gains superhuman strength. In the books, his mask looks eerily similar to that of Star-Lord’s from the first movie.
