Songs for Lonely Times – Funk Radio #113

Today we reveal our favorite songs to listen to when we are feeling lonely and need encouragement that things will get better.

Friends grow apart, breakups happen, but Funk Radio is forever.

Partially following up last week’s episode about happy-sounding sad songs, we wanted to touch on a similar topic—songs that can be enjoyable to listen to when you’re feeling lonely and alienated from other people, or from a specific person. As you might expect, in many of the songs we picked, the singer’s significant other has left him single and hopeless. In a few others though, the singer was actually the one who left but now regrets that decision. And further still, a couple of these aren’t about loneliness per se but are rather intended to give you encouragement no matter what kind of struggles you are facing.

Secondary content this week includes our idea for yet another funk-themed mobile game, the outcome of the Robin Thicke vs. Marvin Gaye’s family court trial, and Kyle’s purchase of a laser pointer thermometer.

Honorable Mentions:

“Just Don’t Want to be Lonely” by the Main Ingredient

“Lonely” by Akon

“I Wish” by Skee-Lo

“O-o-h Child” by the Five Stairsteps

“Tired of Being Alone” by Al Green

“I’ll Get Along” by Michael kiwanuka

“The Loser” by Derrick Harriott
