New Music Day: John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, Aphex Twin, Alt-J, and More!

Howdy music hooligans! You like new stuff? Great – cuz ya stumbled into the right stumble spot – New Music Monday, the most “why I oughta” column at 8CN. Each week record labels and dude’s living in their parents’ basement release all sorts of new music sorts of stuffs, and this is where it all comes to be judged. I’ll tell ya what’s good, what’s bad, and what’s a waste of your time. Thanks for stopping by!

The Big News

Another Monday, and another great week for new music but I am incredibly busy at the moment. So here’s you’re quick roundup of new music for the week! We got new stuff from the guy your dad would really love to have a beer with, John Mellencamp.

And the guy I would really like to have an absinthe with Leonard Cohen.

And Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett unveil a set of standards.

Alt Rock Rocking Stuff

Julian Casablancas, of The Strokes, debuts with The Voidz.

Jeff Tweedy recorded a record with his son.

Alt-J just keeps getting better.

Aphex Twin is back! Yay!

The Best Band Around

Swedish mashers Goat released one of the best albums of the last five years in 2012 (World Music). They return with something better, Commune.

Canadian Christine Fellows has been silent for a while now. She’s back with a huge project.

My Recommendation

S, the project of Jenn Ghetto, is what I’m looking forward to this week.

Next Week

Sorry to mail this one in this week – I’ll try to make it up next week with some in-depth stuff on the two new Prince records – same new music time, same new music channel.
