No holiday is complete without the proper music to accompany all the festive festivitying. Christmas has Nat King Cole’s warm chestnuts and Halloween has monsters mashing and whatnot, but who ever heard of a Thanksgiving song? Well here’s a nice little list if ya need some suggestions for your Thanksgiving playlist!

Arlo Guthrie, “Alice’s Restaurant”

Yeah, let’s just get the most obvious one out of the way. A classic hippy anti-war tale, and the only song most people know by a sorely underrated songwriter.

Paul Simon,”Getting Ready for Christmas Day”

Not many are paying much attention anymore but Mr Simon has released some great albums in the last couple years.

Johnny Cash, “Thanksgiving Prayer”

Another obvious one.

Bob Dylan, “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream”

Can’t get the original cuz Bob don’t do youtube, but this song starts with the old master riding on the Mayflower and goes into all sorts of crazy shit.

Dee Dee Sharp, “Gravy (for My Mashed Potatoes)”

Food songs!!!

Darrell Scott, “The Day Before Thanksgiving”

For the ‘I feel guilty about celebrating Thanksgiving’ crowd.

The Descendents, “I Like Food”

If it mentioned football it would be the embodiment of the Thanksgiving spirit to most Americans.

Mary Chapin Carpenter, “Thanksgiving Song”

Another classic.

“Weird Al” Yankovic, “Eat It”

Really puts everything in perspective, doesn’t it.

Massive Attack, “Be Thankful for What You Got”

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
