The Paranormal Activity series will soon be giving its last fright at least for now anyway. Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, hitting theaters on October 23, will be the final installment.
Producer Jason Blum says they want to end the franchise before the content gets stale.
“It’s coming to an end. This is it, the finale. We’re saying it before the movie opens. We’re not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way.”
From what he’s saying, it sounds like the series is going to wrap-up in a fitting way, albeit possibly open-ended so that it can remain “part of this culture.”
We’ll find out soon enough.
What’s The Ghost Dimension About?
The Ghost Dimension follows a new family plagued by the same paranormal occurrences. The Fleeges — comprised of the father Ryan (played by Chris J. Murray), mother Emily (played by Brit Shaw) and their young daughter Leila (played by Ivy George) — move into their new home. Soon after, they discover a mysterious video camera and a box of old tapes in the garage, and this is going to be the source of their problems.
They watch the found video footage and discover something sinister behind the lens. It leads to them witnessing paranormal activities around their home. Kristi and Katie are said to reemerge. If you’ve followed the franchise then you know it primarily focuses on the two sisters and their fight against a powerful demon.
Blum says that all the questions drawn up throughout the course of the series will finally be answered.
“We couldn’t go just teasing. All the questions that everyone has asked from the past Paranormal Activity films: What does Toby look like? What’s the backstory to the families? These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered.”
As for whether or not this is the true end of the series, only time will tell.
“At some point, might there be a reboot? You never know. We’ve never discussed it,” says Blum. “We made this movie like it’s the end of this Paranormal line for sure.”
Like I said earlier this is the final installment for now.
The good news is that if you’re into video games, you’ll soon be able to experience the world of Paranormal Activity through VR.
Have you been with the series since the beginning? Are you finally looking forward to all the answers? What about seeing Toby?
