Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter FAQ – Everything We Know So Far

The Resident Evil film series is coming to an end (for now at least), with one final installment to mark its 15 year anniversary.

We’ll be updating this space with everything we know about the movie, leading up to the 2017 release.

Is it really going to be the last one?

That’s the official story. Paul W.S. Anderson, who’s directed the entire series, has stated that he wants Resident Evil 6 to bring the series “full circle.” Of course, if it makes a ton of money, I don’t have any doubt we’ll be returning to this world before too long.

What does he mean by “full circle”?

Anderson wants to connect this final installment to the original, both thematically and in a literal sense, with the return of major characters and the Hive location itself. How exactly the underground Umbrella base will feature into the story is still unknown, but as far as we know, it likely escaped the world ending T-Virus outbreak relatively unscathed.

Speaking of returning characters, who’s back?

Milla Jovovich will be back as Alice of course, as will Bingbing Li as Ada Wong, who made her debut in Retribution.

Also returning are Ali Larter as Claire Redfield, Iain Glen as Dr. Alexander Isaacs (or Tyrant, presumably?), and Shawn Roberts as Wesker.

Joining the returning ensemble will be Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, Fraser James, and Rola playing new characters.

What will The Final Chapter be about?

This is the official plot synopsis:

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

Sounds like an appropriate setting for an ending.

What’s the status on the production?

The film is on track, and began principal photography on September 18. It will be filmed mainly in South Africa, including Johannesburg and Cape Town. Unsurprisingly, Paul W.S. Anderson both wrote the script, and will once again direct.

When will it be released?

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set for release on January 27, 2017.

  1. I usually don’t comment on these things, but didn’t Wesker inject her with the T-Virus in the end of the last film?

    1. Yes she did. It’s possible she loses them (again), since the plot synopsis mentions her being betrayed by Wesker in The Final Chapter.
