Star Trek 3 Might Be Called Star Trek Beyond, Taking Us Where No Man Has Gone Before

Rumors claim that the new Star Trek film will be called ‘Star Trek Beyond,’ and yes we know it’s actually number 13 in the franchise. We decided to call it Star Trek 3 because this will be the third film JJ Abrams is attached to.

As the name implies, the next film might take us a bit further than planet Earth which is promising considering the two previous films didn’t venture far out into the universe. Simon Pegg — co-writer of the film — has been hinting at this for a while.

In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Pegg said:

“So for me it’s now about the spirit of adventure and exploration and also, in modern terms, just how would that be for people, to be away for that amount of time and that kind of stuff.”

Could this mean the film is actually going to take us beyond?

The news first broke when reports surfaced that Star Trek Beyond had been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Generally, when that happens a title has been agreed upon by the showrunners. This title could be a placeholder, but if that’s true then the real one will need to be registered with the MPAA before the film launches.

What Else Has Pegg Revealed?

During an interview with The Guardian, Pegg also talked about the idea of taking the [third] film to the series’ roots.

“And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation. But yeah, that’s the mood at the moment.”

Rejoice Trekkies! With any luck, Beyond might actually be a worthy entry in the series.

The good news is that Pegg has always been — and will always be — a geeky fanboy like the rest of us. If anyone can do this film justice, it’s him.

Personally, I enjoyed Abrams previous Star Trek films, but I do admit that they could have been better. What about you?
