Star Wars Battlefront is Getting an Official Story Tie-In Novel

Del Rey is now more or less the official book publishing partner for Disney’s new era of Star Wars.

They’ve already put out A New Dawn, Tarkin, and Heir to the Jedi, the first three novels in the revised canon. Next up is Lords of the Sith later this month, a story exploring the the dynamic between the Emperor and Darth Vader.

At Star Wars Celebration this past weekend, the publisher also revealed what the next three after that will be about, including a novel that will tie into the first new canon Star Wars video game, Battlefront. They are:

Dark Disciple by Christie Golden

Dark Disciple was adapted from eight unfinished episodes of The Clone Wars, and sees the Jedi Council hiring Asajj Ventress to bring Count Dooku to justice. To do so, she’ll need to team up with Jedi Knight Quinlan Voss.

If you don’t recognize the name, Asajj Ventress was a Dathomirian Nightsisterm and former Sith apprentice to Count Dooku in the Clone Wars animated series. She eventually abandoned the Sith cause, becoming a bounty hunter and occasional ally to the Jedi Order.

Dark Disciple is out on July 7.

Aftermath by Chuck Wendig

Aftermath is set after Return of the Jedi, and deals directly with the power vacuum that occurred following the deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader. As we surmised from that whole First Order business, not every system was able to throw off the shackles of the Empire after the second Death Star was destroyed. Many found themselves under even harsher rule as the Empire tightened its grasp on its remaining holdings.

The story itself follows a Rebel soldier who discovers a secret Imperial meeting. Could it be the beginning of the First Order itself? The novel is out on September 4, and will be the first in the Journey to the Force Awakens initiative.

Battlefront: Twilight Company

Finally, we’ve got the Battlefront tie-in novel. It will be set during the original trilogy, and will cover the battles we didn’t see in the movies. Sullust, Coyerti, and Haidoral Prime were among the ones mentioned, with these possibly also being featured in the game itself (we know at least Sullust will be).

This one is out on November 3.
