Studios seemed to be split 50/50 on whether or not a particular movie’s Comic-Con footage this year would be made available online. For some teasers, like Batman V. Superman, it was online immediately. Others, like Suicide Squad, had to be leaked before an official version was posted.
Warcraft‘s extended teaser from the Legendary panel meanwhile, took a few days to finally leak, and taking a look at it, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing an official version anytime soon. The footage that was shown at Comic-Con is not a trailer, it’s more of a string of scenes with unfinished visual effects.
That being said, it’s a pretty solid look at the world Duncan Jones and crew are building. As previously reported, the footage was split into two halves, one focusing on the orcs, and the other on the human side of the war. The video that leaked today only has the orc portion, but it’s surprisingly watchable considering it was probably shot with a phone.
Check it out below while you still can, we’ll discuss it after that:
UPDATE: Legendary says we need to remove the video and screencaps. Sorry!
Oh, “I’m already not interested” guy, may your passive-aggressiveness live on in infamy. Anyways…
What am I looking at here?
This is Draenor, the homeworld of the orcs. A broken and shattered world, the orcish people are in desperate need of food and water, which drives their invasion into the human world. Much of this footage is dedicated to the Horde’s preparations for said attack.
These two are Durotan (left) and Ogrim Doomhammer (right). Durotan is the leader of the exiled Frostwolf clan, while Doomhammer is the right hand of an orc known as Blackhand the Destroyer, the de facto Warchief of the Orcish Horde.
Here we meet Durotan’s wife Draka. She is pregnant with their child.
This is Gu’dan, a warlock and leader of the “Shadow Council.” Gu’dan has his own sinister reasons for wanting to invade the human world, and may prove to be the overall antagonist of the story.
Behind him is the Dark Portal, the means by which the orcs travel from Draenor to the human world.
Overall, I’m impressed with how dedicated this film seems to be to preserving the tone and lore of the Warcraft universe. I wasn’t expecting a straight adaptation of the games (no one in their right mind really should), but this looks like a very faithful recreation of that world and its ideas.
Now we just need to cross our fingers for either a second half of this leak, or if we’re reaaaallly lucky, an official upload.
