Star Wars: Will There Be A New Boba Fett Played By Michael B. Jordan?

The latest in a very long list of Boba Fett rumors.

Boba Fett seems to be behind every other Star Wars rumor these days. First there’s the persistent rumor he’ll get his own spinoff film, then he might appear in The Force Awakens, then he might appear in Rogue One… at this point we’ve heard so much we’d be shocked if the guy didn’t pop up anywhere.

So, when The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider mentioned that Michael B. Jordan would be playing Boba Fett in a spinoff movie on the Meet the Movie Press podcast… we thought it was worth mulling over.

How possible is this?

We’d actually say it’s fairly possible. Michael B. Jordan isn’t just a fantastic actor but he’s also a hot commodity right now. Though Josh Trank did drop out of the project, he did spend some time on it with producer Simon Kinberg… both of whom oversaw Fantastic Four which starred Jordan. Though Trank is no longer working on this Star Wars Anthology film, we wouldn’t be surprised if Jordan’s casting stuck.

So, we’d go with this one being 75% possible.

But shouldn’t Fett be played by Daniel Logan or Temuera Morrison?

Well… this is where we get into some speculation territory. It’s been rumored that Temuera Morrison will be playing Boba Fett in Battlefront… which means that during the original trilogy that character will be consistent.

However, there’s been a rumor going around for a while now that many creatives at Lucasfilm weren’t exactly thrilled by how Boba Fett’s backstory was handled in the prequel films and wanted to kill him off and replace him with another character using the same armor.

How could another character get his armor?

Well, in Star Wars: Aftermath, there is a passage where some Mandalorian armor was recovered on Tatooine by Jawas… and it certainly seems like it had contact with the stomach of a Sarlacc:

From the box, he withdraws a helmet. Pitted and pocked, as if with some kind of acid. But still — he raps his knuckles on it. The Mandalorians knew how to make armor, didn’t they? “Look at this,” he says, holding it up. “Mandalorian battle armor. Whole box. Complete set, by the looks of it. Been through hell and back. I think my boss will appreciate this.”

So, it’s very possible that that armor will fall into the hands of someone else like Michael B. Jordan’s character. As for the fate of the original Boba Fett… well… that one is up in the air. Perhaps the film could have the genuine article looking to reclaim his birthright… or possible passing on the torch to keep the legend alive?

When will this Boba Fett Film come out?

We don’t know… though there doesn’t seem to be any room in the schedule until after Episode IX in 2019. So, it’ll be a bit of a wait.
