Star Wars: The Old Republic – $200 million
SW:TOR was the one to take the crown as the most expensive game before GTA:V, even though it had a bit of a rocky start. They had more subscribers than they could dream of at launch, but lost a lot of that momentum as players dropped their subscription in the following months. However, the game remains mostly profitable, raking in $139 million in 2013 even after they adopted their model of combining free-to-play with a paid subscription service. It’s easy to see why this game brings in the dough, since who wouldn’t want to live in a world where you can meet robots and hear mumbled noises from your favorite rainbow colored creatures from the Star Wars expanded universe?
