Video games based on DC Comics characters have come a long way since the very first game, Superman, was launched on the Atari 2600 console in 1979. Here are our top four picks.
DC Universe Online
Massive multiplayer online games are becoming massively popular, and DC Universe Online is no exception. Around 18 million players participate in the free-to-play online game that is set in a future world of the DC universe. The opening cinematic sets the scene. It depicts a battle between the last of the world’s greatest superheroes and villains in the ruins of Metropolis. A scarred Batman commands heroes like Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and Green Arrow against Lex Luthor’s team of super-villains, which includes the Joker, Poison Ivy, and Black Adam. As a player of the game, you get to create a new character that interacts with the heroes and villains. You can choose to play a goodie or a baddie. You can also choose things like the gender, body type, and personality of your character and his or her weapons and gadgets. Once you name your original character, you are thrust into the DC Universe Online world where you must complete your first mission: fighting your way out of a spaceship.
Wonder Woman Slot Game
Wonder Woman is one of the biggest stars of DC Comics, and she has appeared in various video games like DC Universe Online and the Justice League series. So, it is an outrage that there is currently no video game starring the Princess of the Amazons. But if rumors are to be believed, that could change soon. In the meantime, all is not lost, because Wonder Woman does star in a fabulous slot game, which is available on this site. In the Wonder Woman slot, you can increase your chances with Expanding Wilds and Mystery Stacks, and get access to free spins. You’re sure to have a wondrous time playing the Wonder Woman slot game.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
If you can’t decide which DC Comics’ character you like playing the most, in Injustice: Gods Among Us, you can play as one of a huge array of DC characters. There are dozens of famous names to choose from in this fighting video game; heroes and villains alike. You could engage in combat, with the aim of knocking out your opponent, as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Joker, or Lex Luthor, to name but a few. Some characters are even available to play in different skins. The playability, game mechanics, and controls are similar to NetherRealm Studios’ previous title Mortal Kombat, and that’s not a bad thing. As for the storyline of Injustice: Gods Among Us, it’s set in a parallel universe within the DC Multiverse. In this reality, the unthinkable happens. After the Joker tricks Superman into killing his love Lois Lane and destroying the city of Metropolis, the Man of Steel becomes a tyrant who establishes a new world order. It is up to Batman and League members from another universe to end Superman’s totalitarianism.
Batman: Arkham City
This second installment in the Batman: Arkham series of games is considered by most to be one of the greatest games of all time. The action-adventure game’s plot sees Batman incarcerated in the super-prison Arkham City, which encloses the rotting urban slums of Gotham City. It is up to you, as the Dark Knight, to reveal the secret behind a sinister scheme of the prison’s warden Hugo Strange. The game has a third-person perspective. The Caped Crusader can move freely about the prison while interacting with characters and embarking on side-story missions, using his stealth, gadgets, and detecting skills. You can also play the game as Catwoman, who embarks on her own storyline that runs parallel to the central plot. Batman: Arkham City is simply fantastic on every level, but it is also taken to a new level due to many of the game’s main characters being voiced by actors from the DC Animated Universe. Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman, and Star Wars legend Mark Hamill reprises his role as the Joker.
