Remember the free Playstation Plus Edition of Driveclub that Sony and Evolution Studios promised once upon a time? After several delays, server hiccups and dozens of blind promises it’s finally coming.
Wait, What? Is This Really Happening?
Only the offline version of the game will be available. They’ll slowly be rolling out the online features for everyone over time. They continue to claim that the servers aren’t ready for such a heavy load just yet. They’re expecting “millions of PS Plus members to download the game” when it becomes available.
Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, elaborated further in the blog post:
We have to take this precaution because Driveclub connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds.
The good news is that it’s finally here! The bad news, offline only for now.
The game was launched prematurely earlier this week but was quickly pulled from the store after it garnered attention.
What Comes In the Free PS Plus Edition?
Sadly, the PS Plus Edition of Driveclub doesn’t include the entire game for free. It comes with:
- Every feature from the core game like standard races online and off, additional challenges, touring events, extensive customization, replays, Photo Mode and more
- You can design your own races and choose options like time of day, weather and more
- Race on all 13 tracks in India, just one of six locations in the main game
- 15 cars for your garage
- A chance to unlock 27 PlayStation trophies, including the Platinum — no purchase required
The game download is 14.7GB, just for the PS Plus Edition. You might have to free up some space unless you’ve upgraded your HDD already.
If you fall in love with the game and decide you want to upgrade to the full edition, it will cost $24.99 USD, £19.99 GBP, or $27.49 CAD. The upgrade unlocks “an extra 40+ cars, 65 tracks and a vast single player campaign.”
Is it too late for Driveclub? Have you already moved on or are you still willing to give it a shot?
