Assassin’s Creed is the yearly franchise that won’t quit. Even after the lackluster reception of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we have another installment on the way that will hopefully put the franchise back on course.
Last year, rumor leaked of Assassin’s Creed Victory, a Victorian London set game that seemed to build off Unity‘s gameplay. However, rumors on the game after the initial leak were very hard to come by. Now, Kotaku is reporting that an announcement is coming next week and the game will be called Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
Is Syndicate still set in Victorian London?
As far as we know. It’s safe to assume the game we heard about last year is still under development and has simply changed names, but we don’t know for sure.
What happened in the demo?
It lasted about seven minutes and was shown behind closed doors. It shows an Assassin decked out in some pretty fantastic gear as he climbs up a tower during a rainy night. Our Assassin enters a horse drawn carriage and his contact gives him the task of killing a man named Roderick Bulmer, who has been engaging in human trafficking.
The carriage is attacked, however, and your character is drawn into a fight on top of the carriage as the rainy city races by. Our Assassin repels the attackers and infiltrates the Charing Cross Railway station using a disguise. When he discovers Bulmer out in the open, he uses a new item, a grappling hook, to swing over to his target and perform an aerial assassination. To escape the Templars chasing after him, our guy leaps from a moving train into the stereotypical Assassin’s Creed haystack.
How do we know that demo was even real?
Well, aside from the fact the screenshots taken from the demo really do look real, Ubisoft released a statement after the leak,
“It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption are leaked. And, while we certain welcome the anticipation for all our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players.”
Do we know anything else about the game?
Unfortunately we do not, though that will change next week. With the setting of Victorian London, it’s possible we’ll see many influences from the works of Charles Dickens, some possible crossover with Assassin’s Creed Unity, the Napoleonic War, and a heavy influence from the Industrial Revolution. Not to mention some snazzy fashion. It’s worth being excited about, assuming the game works properly at launch.
When will the reveal happen?
According to Kotaku, on May 12th.
