We have comics for Darth Vader, Lando Calrissian, and Princess Leia. How it’s time for everyone’s favorite Wookie to get his time in the spotlight.
So, Chewbacca is getting a coming?
Indeed he is. Here’s the covers for the first issue to prove it:
Who’s writing and drawing it?
Gerry Duggan is writing and Phil Noto is drawing.
Huh. When is it set?
Like the other Star Wars comics currently being put out by Marvel, it takes place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It seems, in fact, it’s set immediately after A New Hope… which makes us wonder if the first issue is about Chewbacca trying to figure why he didn’t get a medal for helping blow up the Death Star.
Do you know what it’s actually about?
It’s a mission that features Chewbacca on his own after crash landing on a planet rich in resources that the Empire wants all for itself. For the good of both himself and the planet, Chewbacca must work with some local Rebels to fight off the Empire. Check out the official synopsis straight from Marvel:
Known as the skilled co-pilot of the infamous Millennium Falcon, the legendary Wookiee warrior CHEWBACCA will star in his very own limited comic series! After the battle of Yavin, Chewbacca is on his own when he crash lands his ship on an Imperial occupied planet. Now stranded, Chewie finds himself caught in the middle of trying to return to the rebellion and helping a young and feisty girl in need. Writer Gerry Duggan (DEADPOOL, 1872, HULK) and artist Phil Noto (BLACK WIDOW, X-23, UNCANNY X-FORCE) bring us a never-before-seen tale of the heroic Wookiee we all know and love.
How are they going to get around the fact Chewbacca doesn’t speak English?
All the other characters will apparently know what he’s saying. The artists are also coming up with a visual language to help clue the reader in to what Chewbacca is trying to express.
How long will the comic last?
Five issues.
When will it come out?
October 2015.
