The Deus Ex franchise is about to get a whole lot bigger. Eidos-Montreal has revealed Deus Ex Universe, a transmedia franchise that will include games on the PC, next-gen consoles, tablets, and smartphones, as well as books, graphic novels, and who knows what else.
In a blog post, Eidos’s David Anfossi called Universe “an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.”
“It’s a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before,” he added.
“Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc.”
The first game in this endeavor is apparently already underway, with much of the Human Revolutionteam on board.
So far, the above piece of concept art is all we know about the game. It’s described as showing:
…trans-humanism segregation, which is a backdrop to our vision for the next Deus Ex. It represents a “ghetto-city’ voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.
In the meantime, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut is heading to the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC on October 22.
