Today we analyze just a couple of songs that have direct lyrical ties to other singers, usually in a tribute context.
It’s a pretty simple concept, and it happens more often than you may think. Sometimes the lyrics of a song make a quick shout-out, or extensive reference, to one or more singers. This kind of meta cross-referencing is most often done when the person being mentioned has died, and the person singing the song drew inspiration from them. (Again, this isn’t the case every time, but it’s certainly the most common reason.) As a bonus, we wrap up this episode with new developments on our recent, and irrelevant, discussion about Pop-Tart flavors. Because we’re adults.
