There’s an animated Guardians of the Galaxy series coming soon, and when it arrives, these will be the voices of your favorite band of intergalactic a-holes.
Disney announced the cast earlier today. Here’s who they got:
Will Friedleis as Peter Quill/Star-Lord
A star on Boy Meets World back in the 90s, Friedle has since gone on to a successful voice acting career, playing characters such as Terry McGinnis on Batman Beyond, and Ron Stoppable on Kim Possible.
Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon
Devall has done a lot of previous voice work comic book TV shows. He’s been Steve Rogers, Cyclops, Living Laser, Pyro, and most fittingly, voiced Rocket Racoon for the character’s appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man. Video game fans might also recognize him as the voice of Jayce in League of Legends.
Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot
Richardson has appeared on almost 100 episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Simpsons. He also plays Sheriff Blubs on Gravity Falls, Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Trigon on Teen Titans Go. Best of all, he was the voice of Groot three times before, on Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Avengers Assemble, and once more for the Disney Infinity video game.
Vanessa Marshall as Gamora
Marshall is another performer on this list with a ton of superhero voice experience. She’s been Wonder Woman, Huntress, Mary Jane, Poison Ivy, and Black Widow in various shows, movies, and video games. She now has an ongoing role on Star Wars Rebels as Hera, and does a ton of voice work for video games.
David Sobolov as Drax
Like a surprising number of cast members, Sobolov already has experience playing his character. He’s done voice work for Drax in Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Marvel Heroes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and Disney Infinity. So yeah, I think he knows his character pretty well.
James Arnold Taylor as Cosmo and Yondu
Finally, we have James Arnold Taylor doing double duty as Cosmo and Yondu. He’s appeared in both Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and played a ton of comic book characters in video games. More importantly, holy crap Cosmo is in this show. That’s all I needed to know.
The Guardians of the Galaxy animated series will be heading to Disney XD later this year, and if that test footage we saw at NYCC was any indication, it’s going to be goooood. In the meantime, you can watch the casting announcement video here:
