Time for your weekly round up of all the new music stuffs hitting the weekend waves! I’ll tell ya what’s good, what’s bad, and what’s a waste of your time. Thanks for stopping by!
The Big News
I’m gonna go out on a limb this week. There’s a bunch of minor releases this week, but the one that I am most excited about is the debut release from I’m With Her, a collaboration between folk mavens and Prairie Home Companion features Sarah Jarosz, Sara Watkins, and Aofie O’Donavan. Like the masterful case/lang/veirs collab from a few years ago (which featured KD Lang, Neko Case, and Laura Veirs) the album is one of the most creative and insightful I’ve heard in a bit. So we’ll call it the big new release of the week because it’s fucking freezing cold outside everywhere and everything is covered in snow and just for the hell of it its a perfect album for a day like today. NPR is streaming it for free right now and you should check it out.
Happy Returns
Wow, I was wondering like, just the other day if we’d ever hear from New York electro-brations Fischerspooner again. It’s been, what, like a decade or so since Entertainment. Now comes SIR, which is produced by Michael fucking Stipe of all people.
A new Superchunk rekkid is always good news. What a Time to Be Alive is the North Carolina based indie-institution’s first in five years and third since it’s quasi comeback in 2010.
Speaking of Indie
England’s Wild Beasts may be no more but here is a live album by which to remember them.
New Pianos Become the Teeth for your Warped Tour tickle.
And punk stalwarts American Nightmare are back with are back with their first proper album in forever.
And Senses Fail offer it’s seventh full-length , If There’s a Light it Will Find You.
My Recommendation
Japanese genius Ryuichi Sakamoto apparently has two releases this week. Glass is a collab with Alvo Noto. The other is async remodels, reworkings of his async release from last year.
Next Week
Another slow week but tune in next week, same new music time, same new music channel, for new stuff from Reggie and the Full Effect!!!
