We have some juicy news for you Dungeons & Dragons lovers today. Wizards of the Coast announced the newest storyline which will be coming fall 2015.
Rage of Demons, as it’s so aptly named, will allow you to “fight alongside Drizzt Do’Urden” when it launches “on computer, console or tabletop” sometime this fall.
As the official announcement says:
The demon lords have been summoned from the Abyss and players must descend into the Underdark with the iconic hero Drizzt Do’Urden to stop the chaos before it threatens the surface. Rage of Demons is the story all D&D gamers will be excited to play this fall, whether they prefer consoles, PCs or rolling dice with friends.
Following on the critically-acclaimed Tyranny of Dragons and Elemental Evil stories, Rage of Demons will transport characters to the deadly and insane underworld. Rumors of powerful demon lords such as Demogorgon, Orcus and Graz’zt terrorizing the denizens of the Underdark have begun to filter up to the cities of the Sword Coast. The already dangerous caverns below the surface are thrown into ultimate chaos, madness and discord. The renegade drow Drizzt Do’Urden is sent to investigate but it will be up to you to aid in his fight against the demons before he succumbs to his darker temptations.
When Is the New Storyline Coming?
The new storyline will arrive via several different platforms including a new PC roleplaying game from n-Space and Digital Extremes, and an expansion for the D&D inspired MMORPG Neverwinter.
That expansion – titled Underdark – will launch on PC first and then the Xbox One at a later date. The update will allow players to travel alongside Drizzt to the drow city of Menzoberranzan during a demonic assault. Several quests will be introduced, written by the creator of Drizzt himself, R.A. Salvatore.
Speaking of R.A. Salvatore, he’ll be releasing a new novel in September, called Archmage which explores the new D&D storyline. If you’re into the books, his books anyway, you’ll be pleased to know new content is on the way.
For tabletop players, WizKids, GaleForce 9 and Smiteworks are all going to support Rage of Demons with new products later this year. Out of the Abyss is a new chapter for tabletop roleplayers that will incorporate the new storyline.
Any way you cut it, whether you’re a fan of the tabletop games, computer based RPGS, or full-length novels, you’ll be getting something later this year when the new storyline drops.
