We don’t know much about Ridley Scott’s upcoming film The Martian, but we do know it will include a star-studded cast with Matt Damon at the helm.
According to the official synopsis, Matt Damon and crew will travel to Mars to pay the red planet’s surface a visit. After a severe storm, the crew assumes his character is dead and takes off on him — leaving him on Mars. He’ll be forced to survive on the planet in the meantime, right along with trying to get a message back to Earth that he’s still alive. It sure sounds interesting.
Believe it or not, the whole thing is based on a novel by Andy Weir — called The Martian — which was published in 2012. The book is actually pretty lighthearted in nature, despite some of the things that happen to Matt Damon’s character — Mark Watney — after he is stranded on Mars.
It looks like most of that tone carried over to the film, as well, if the promo is any indication. Check it out:
Who Else Is In the Movie?
Alongside Matt Damon will be Michael Pena as the pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as the commander Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as Aleks Vogel, and Kata Mara as “computer expert” Beth Johanssen. Those absent from the promo are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, and Kristen Wiig.
If you’ve never read the book and you want to know a little more about each of the characters that appear in the promo, pay attention to the silly yet informative info dumps that appear. For instance, the resident computer expert Beth Johanssen is apparently a fan of classic Kung Fu movies. Good to know.
The movie will hit theaters on November 25th, so go ahead and mark your calendars now.
