1. Crash Bandicoot
How and why did this series fall by the wayside? For folks who may not remember, Crash Bandicoot wasn’t just one of the most memorable titles on the original Playstation, it was the poster child.
I mean, Crash was the Playstation mascot for crying out loud. In the way that Mario was synonymous with Nintendo and Sonic was synonymous with Sega, Crash Bandicoot was the face of the Playstation.
And then it all went away.
While Crash made the successful jump from Generation 5 to Generation 6 with Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, it all sort of fell apart after that. That’s not to say that Twinsanity and Crash of the Titans weren’t good games per se, but they weren’t really Crash Bandicoot either. By the time we reached Mind over Mutant in 2008, folks had generally moved on from Crash, mostly because of the mediocre nature of his last few games.
From there, Crash became relegated to spin-offs and racing games. These games also weren’t necessarily bad but it’s been 17 years since the fallen face of Playstation really had a chance to shine, with his last great game being Crash Bandicoot: Warped on the original Playstation.
Umm, PS4. Exclusives. Get your crap together, Sony. We’re still waiting.
