American Horror Story will return to FX with thirteen new episodes this fall, and writer and co-executive producer Douglas Petrie has revealed the “theme” of the season: carnivals. Sounds like fertile ground for plenty of creepiness.

Petrie discussed the idea on the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast. While initially hesistant to reveal anything, he did confirm another guest’s hearsay that the season would involve carnivals.

“Yes — that was the, it — it does not have a title,” Petrie stated.

Showrunner Ryan Murphy has previously said that the season would be split between two time periods, one of them being the 1950s. “If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year,” he told EW.
