Captain America: Civil War – Tony and Steve’s Teams Revealed. Did We Predict Them Correctly?

Time for our MCU report card.

With Captain America: Civil War’s production is in full swing, details are bound to leak out. One of the biggest sources of speculation for the film was which of the Avengers would side of Steve’s side of the conflict and who would side with Tony. Well, it seems now we know. But as a bit of a fun twist, we’re going to frame the news through the lens of an article we posted a few months back with our predictions on who would join which side.

So, who are the teams?

According to the rumor, Captain’s America team consists of:

  • Captain America
  • Hawkeye
  • Falcon
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Ant Man
  • The Winter Soldier

Iron Man’s roster is thus:

  • Iron Man
  • The Vision
  • Spider-Man
  • Black Widow
  • War Machine

So… who did you get right?

Falcon

Falcon

Our prediction: ” He’s also proven he’s loyal to Captain America no matter the situation. When asked by Nick Fury is he’s on board for their plan to take down Project Insight, Sam looks to Steve and says, ‘Don’t look at me. I do what he does, just slower.'” Captain America.

Rumored side: Captain America

War Machine

Our prediction: “While Rhodey has always had an uneasy friendship with Tony in both the comics and onscreen, he has always remained true in his loyalty to the United States government. If, in fact, the cause of Civil War is a government mandated superhero registration act, then Rhodey will most likely side with the government and with Tony.” Iron Man.

Rumored side: Iron Man.

Vision

Vision

Our prediction: “The problem is we simply don’t know him well enough, as he’s only had about half an hour of screen time.” Could go either way… but we’re slightly leaning with Captain America.

Rumored side: Iron Man

Scarlet Witch

SW

Our prediction: “… She also still doesn’t like Tony Stark, despite now being an Avenger. It’s very hard to see her following his orders.” Captain America.

Rumored side: Captain America.

Hawkeye

Our prediction: “… Age of Ultron shows us that he values his privacy because he has a family to protect, which may make him sympathetic to those who have to give up their right to privacy when they register.” Most likely Captain America.

Rumored side: Captain America

Black Widow

BW

Our prediction: “Odds are she will most likely go with the side that has more safeguards against potential problems, which would be the Stark camp.” Most likely Iron Man.

Rumored side: Iron Man

Spider-Man

spider-mannew

Our prediction: “Spider-Man was the very center of the comic’s version of Civil War, first famously siding with Stark before defecting to the anti-registration side.” He’ll be courted by Iron Man, but most likely will end up siding with Captain America.

Rumored side: Iron Man

The Winter Soldier

Our prediction: “It’s pretty obvious Civil War is going to include a redemptive arc for Bucky Barns. There’s just very little reason for him to side with Stark rather than the man he will rediscover his friendship for.” Captain America

Rumored side: Captain America

Ant-Man

Ant-Man-7

Our prediction: “While his movie is just coming out, it’s hard to tell what side he’ll be on. We haven’t seen how he’s characterized yet, so it’s hard to say.” Too soon to tell.

Rumored side: Captain America, though this was confirmed by Ant-Man’s post credit scene.

So, how’d you do?

We successfully predicted 7 out of 9, though we misjudged Vision (mostly) and were neutral on Ant-Man. We still believe Spider-Man will follow his comics counterpart and start with Tony only to defect to Steve near the end of the conflict.

Overall, we did pretty well! How well you did you predict the teams? Let us know in the comments!
