We won’t be seeing a second season of Daredevil for another year or so, but the creative team is already hard at work assembling the next storyline.
We’ve heard some rumors going around that actresses have been screentesting for Elektra, a Hand ninja and on-again, off-again love interest of Matt Murdock. Now, a new report has emerged claiming that Marvel is also looking to cast Bullseye, one of Daredevil’s most iconic foes, and they’re looking at a very high-profile action star to play him.
Who does Marvel want for Daredevil?
According to Latino Review, none other than Jason Statham took a meeting with Marvel earlier this week. According to one of the publication’s inside sources, the subject of the meeting was the possibility that Statham could play Bullseye in Daredevil Season 2.
How likely is this?
The idea that Statham and Marvel have met is not very far-fetched. Marvel takes spec meetings with potential cast and crew all the time, and given that Statham is a very popular actor, this is not a huge thing.
However, the Bullseye side of the equation is another matter entirely. Marvel has historically shied away from casting big name stars in their films, and that goes doubly so for their TV projects. Additionally, Statham’s packed schedule is another monkey wrench in that possibility, given that he’s attached to both the Expendables and the Fast & Furious movie series.
Statham has expressed some interest in Daredevil in the past though, stating that he would like to play Matt Murdock himself if another Daredevil film happens back in 2008. It could also be that LR’s inside source is piggybacking off of old information, and Statham’s meeting for Marvel was for something else entirely.
That being said, anything is possible where Marvel is concerned; and given how much of a success Daredevil‘s first season was, it’s entirely possible that they have enough pull to get a big-name actor like Statham for the second run.
How about in terms of the character itself?
As far as how likely it is we’ll see Bullseye next season, it’s certainly a strong possibility. While I think there’s a better chance that Season 2 will focus on the Hand and Elektra, there’s no reason that Bullseye can’t make an appearance as well.
And if you’ll remember our easter egg rundown for Season 1, we may have already seen a cameo from the character…
When will Daredevil Season 2 arrive?
The show’s second season is loosely scheduled to arrive in 2016, although that release window is tentative at best. In the meantime, we can look forward to A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Agents of SHIELD Season 3, and Agent Carter Season 2 later this year.
