The Warcraft trailer that debuted at Comic-Con won’t be online for a while (because reasons), but this is a decent consolation prize.
What am I looking at here?
The top image is Anduin Lothar, played by Travis Fimmel. In the games, Lothar is a knight during the first war between the humans and orcs, and later becomes the leader of the human armies during the two factions’ second war.
It’s likely that the Warcraft movie will chart his rise, from a simple knight, to a man who will eventually be dubbed the “Lion of Azeroth.”
The bottom image is Toby Kebbell as Durotan, the orc chieftain of the exiled Frostwolf Clan. He’ll be an essential player in the conflict, as various orc tribes and the mysterious warlock Shadow Council vie for power on the eve of their invasion of the human world.
What if hypothetically, that all sounds like gibberish to me?
Don’t worry. There’s a ton of background lore in the Warcraft universe that you’d need to know if you wanted to pick apart this movie’s story and setting before it comes out, but you won’t need to know a thing before watching the actual movie.
Setting the Warcraft movie during the initial conflict between the humans and orcs will give anyone a pretty painless entry point into the universe, regardless of their experience with the games.
That being said, if you are interested in knowing more about this crazy fantasy world, we’ll have a primer on just that ready later this week.
