Is he a Sith or just a pissed off guy with a lightsaber? We don’t know yet, but he looks like he means business. Many rumors have been bouncing around, but the closer we get to Star Wars Celebration, the more concrete images we have. Just yesterday we had the new storm trooper revealed in full.
Today, we have the first full images of the movie’s villain who we currently know as Kylo Ren, courtesy of Indie Revolver. Check them out:
This guy looks familiar…
Yes, you may remember him from the infamous trailer shot at the top of the article.
Well, sure, yes, but there’s something else about him. A presence I have not felt since…
Ah, very astute young Padawan. He is rather reminiscent of fan favorite Darth Revan from the Knights of the Old Republic games and also later seen in the MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Is there a connection?
While many would wish it so, the chances of that are slim to none. Lucasfilm isn’t using the old EU anymore, which means the Knights of the Old Republic games are no longer a part of the Star Wars cannon.
If he isn’t connected to Darth Revan, what’s his deal?
We’re not entirely sure yet, but there are many rumors (and potential spoilers) running around the internet . Because there’s nothing concrete story wise, there’s not much to say other than he’s definitely the bad guy and rumored to be played by Adam Driver. He also uses a new lightsaber design that, as you may know, is considered controversial.
I’m seeing this silver storm trooper in these shots. What’s his deal?
It may not actually be a “he” at all. The character is rumored to be called “Captain Phasma” and played by Gwendoline Christie of Game of Thrones fame. Captain Phasma seems to be something akin to a storm trooper equivalent of the “Captain of the Guard.”
Gwendoline Christie? Brienne of Tarth?
The one and only. It’ll be very interesting if the rumor is true.
Anything else you can tell me?
Nothing concrete, but it’s a safe bet that more images, footage, and information will be leaking online shortly as Star Wars Celebration continues. At 10 am PST this morning, there will be a Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel that will be live streamed on the official site. Be sure to check it out.
Also keep your eyes peeled for Star Wars: Battlefront news. They will be having a panel during Star Wars Celebration and it’s very possible some details about the game, including footage or images, will be revealed. Until then, keep your eyes open and may the Force be with you.
