For a while now, we’ve known that The Force Awakens will bring in many old faces back to help guide a new generation. Luke, Han, Leia, and others are confirmed to appear… but does that mean we won’t see anyone else? According to Making Star Wars… we may get an unexpected cameo.
Wicket? Seriously?
To be fair, I didn’t say it was confirmed.
What makes them think the Ewoks are coming back?
Recently, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and actress Daisy Ridley did a press tour in Japan. In the press tour booklet, they listed Warwick Davis as Wicket. Check it out:
Why would they list him like that?
The simplest explanation is they listed Davis that way because that’s his most recognizable character in Star Wars. A more outlandish explanation is that, yes, he’s playing Wicket in The Force Awakens and it hasn’t been officially announced, but was somehow leaked because someone listed it on a Japanese press packet.
So, level with me. What’s the likelihood we’ll see an Ewok?
During that same press tour, Kennedy had the following to say about Ewoks in future films, “Seeing how the Ewoks could return is a little harder to imagine.”
It also seems they’re going for a serious tone for the new films, hopefully inspired by The Empire Strikes Back. Ewoks wouldn’t fit well into that. However, there is a rumor floating around that we’ll see some First Order goons go to Endor to retrieve Vader’s mask, which could mean a couple of Ewok extras.
A wild guess on the odds? 80-20 in favor of no Ewoks or Wicket… but you never know.
