I stumbled across this piece of amazing fan art earlier today, and now I can’t stop thinking about how great a Kate Bishop/Hawkeye Netflix series would be.
The poster was created by Kim (aka nottonyharrison) on Tumblr, and seems to be inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 22-issue run on the Hawkeye comic, which wrapped up earlier this year.
The series (which is an absolute must-read) follows Clint Barton trying to balance his day-to-day life with his “job” of being a (not-so-super) superhero. In the mix is Kate Bishop, aka the other Hawkeye; ostensibly Clint’s student. but realistically way more level-headed and capable. I agree that Aubrey Plaza would be fantastic in this role.
Also it has a dog named Lucky who likes pizza, and is wisely included on the poster.
Said poster itself is pretty awesome, but the craziest part about it is that the more I think about it, the more I feel like it could totally work as a serious MCU project.
While it’s very unlikely that Matt Fraction’s run on Hawkeye could be faithfully translated to the screen, that doesn’t mean we can’t get a series inspired by it. The movie characterization of Clint Barton is not especially close to the one we get in the comics (especially now with the secret family we saw in Age of Ultron), but his semi-retirement opens a great opportunity to take on training his replacement.
Kate Bishop would be an excellent addition to the MCU, and she’d fit right in with the street-level justice going on with Daredevil, and soon, Jessica Jones and the rest of The Defenders. And hell, Aubrey Plaza is mainly known for her TV work, so there’s a pretty decent chance she’d be available for a Netflix miniseries.
Maybe I’m just too excited about seeing Pizza Dog in the MCU, but I really hope someone at Marvel gets wind of this poster. Nice work Kim!
