Matthew McConaughey Approached by Marvel and DC: What Characters Could He Play?

If you’ve been browsing the web today, you might have heard that Matthew McConaughey has been approached by Marvel and DC. This is interesting news indeed, especially since he’s such a high-profile actor. It just goes to show how successful Marvel’s movies have been over the past few years.

When Was McConaughey Approached?

As you’d expect, McConaughey did not reveal what projects Marvel and DC showed him or what characters he might be considered to play. He revealed what’s actually going on during an interview with Variety.

“I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with you what they are — or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those.”

It would also mean that McConaughey would be contractually obligated to reprise a role for multiple films. That doesn’t seem like the sort of thing he’s into, considering most of his past roles have been one-offs. Even in True Detective — which is a TV series — he took on a one season role, as the series will be an anthology introducing new characters each season.

It would appear McConaughey feels the same way about taking on a permanent role, because he also said this during the interview:

“Contractually, you’re going to return to the character over and over. It’s something I asked myself is it something I’d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again?”

At least he’s considering the idea, it means he may eventually warm up to it.

Who Would McConaughey Play?

Still, it makes you wonder what roles DC and Marvel were asking McConaughey to play. If McConaughey’s acting on True Detective is an indication, it shows he can handle just about any role imaginable.

If he were to enter the Marvel Universe I’d have to say he’d make a great Adam Warlock, Mister Sinister, or hell even Moon Knight.

DC would have to be Animal Man, or a big-screen Oliver Queen even though Stephen Amell plays him on Arrow. Come to think of it, I really do hope DC picks him up for Animal Man, that would be awesome.

What roles do you think he would be a good fit for?
