MTV Unveils the First Trailer for Scream the TV Series

Who doesn’t remember Ghostface, the creepy serial killer from the Scream series that debuted in 1996? Say what you will about the rest of the series, but the first slasher-flick was scary for it’s time.

It looks like the series is about to make a comeback, but not in the way you’d expect.

What’s Going on With Scream Now?

MTV just unveiled the trailer for Scream the TV Series. Yes, it’s coming to small screens.

The show will delve into more modern problems, as cyber-bullying is the spark for the new killer. It appears that a series of murders will set the town of Lakewoodand on edge, just like what happened in the movies.

The show is being marketed with the tagline: “Everyone has secrets, everyone tells lies and everyone is fair game.”

We’re not entirely sure if the TV series will treat the movies as canon. It’s likely this will be a different story entirely, but we’ll know for sure soon enough. It will be interesting to see how the slasher-flick theme plays out in longform.

It looks like the writers are sticking with the same ideas for the characters, though. There’s the popular girl in the beginning who gets murdered a la Drew Barrymore. Then you have the town sheriff, a kid who knows everything about horror movies, a psychotic boyfriend, and more.

When Can I Watch Scream the TV Series?

Scream the Series

The series was originally supposed to launch in October, however it’s been moved up to June 30. Obviously, it’s going to air on MTV with ten episodes in the first season.

Hollywood Reporter is saying Scream the TV Series will feature Bella Thorne, Jason Wiles, Willa Fitzgerald, Carlson Young, and John Karna. There also appears to be a long list of producers including Wes Craven — the guy responsible for the original films — and Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.
