I’m sure you’ve already heard the news — or maybe not — Marvel’s Daredevil has been renewed for a second season by Netflix. It’s not surprising since the show opened to such acclaim. If you haven’t had a chance to watch the first season yet, you should go do that — it’s really good.
Anyway, it looks like previous showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is taking a step back for the next season due to “previous commitments.” Don’t worry, management isn’t bringing in new blood to replace him.
Who Is Taking the Helm for Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil?
Doug Petrie of American Horror Story fame and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) will be the showrunners for the upcoming season. Ramirez worked directly with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard for the original season. In other words, Ramirez should have a good idea of what the team was going for with the tone and content so we shouldn’t see a drastic change for Season 2.
DeKnight explains his departure in the announcement from Marvel:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season. I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”
As for Season 2, Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will serve as the show’s Executive Producers. I may have to eat my hat with this statement, but it looks like the show is still in good hands.
Let’s hope all of the actors reprise their roles going forward, well, the ones who are still alive anyway.
