Pikachu and Friends are the Official Japanese Mascots for the 2014 World Cup

Japan has officially chosen Pikachu and 10 other Pokemon as their official mascots for the 2014 World Cup. Why? Because Pokemon are awesome, that’s why.

If nothing else, it really proves just how influential those little collectible critters are, especially in their home country of Japan. It’s hard to imagine another set of video game characters that could be the official mascots of an entire nation.
