I quite enjoyed season one of Powers, the first Playstation exclusive TV series. That said, there’s no denying the fact that things started out pretty slow.
It had me worried, because shows with a slow burn don’t always do so well. Not to mention, the only way to watch Powers is via a Playstation console. If you don’t have one you’re out of luck. There was no way to know how well the show did in terms of ratings and whether or not it would be renewed.
Looks like it did much better than expected. Playstation just renewed Powers for a second season.
What Is Powers?
If you’re not familiar with the show, it’s based on a comic — also called Powers — by Brian Michael Bendis. It stars Sharlto Copley as a detective who works for the Powers division task force, a unit that deals with crimes committed by or against those with special superhuman abilities.
John Koller, VP of platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, said that support for the series was overwhelming.
“The reception to Powers has been incredible, and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind. We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of Powers.”
I’m excited to see what’s in store for season two. The showrunners have promised to “broaden the Powers universe and bring even more of the fan-favorite characters and storylines to life.”
Personally, I never read the comics but I am familiar with the source material. Any other Powers fans out there?
