Recently it was announced the character of Mary Jane Watson, played by Shailene Woodley, had been cut out of Amazing Spider-Man 2. Rumors quickly spread that newly cast actress Sarah Gordon had replaced Woodely as Spider-Man’s red-headed love interest. Gordon, however, has announced on twitter that she while she has a role in the film, it will not be as Peter Parker’s supermodel girlfriend.
In Sarah Gordon’s tweeted words:
“To all those a twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, bit it is not that one”
Shailene Woodley’s role was reportedly cut out of the film in order to better streamline the story between Peter Parke and Gwen Stacy, played by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Woodley’s early wrap date even suggested a small role. If Mary Jane Watson is included in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, she will most likely appear in 2016’s Amazing Spider-Man 3.
