Soft and alluring sounds beckon from the Cocteau Twins like chjmes of Welsh outfit LIghts That Change. The brainchild of producer Marc Joy, the band released an EP that was well received in 2013, but have returned with a revamped lineup to offer their debut full-length, Byzantium, to the gods this summer. Ensconced in the delicate, other-worldly vocals of Mandy Clare, the first single “Voices” is awash with miraculous melodies and waves of sound that shudder decadently at the sight of the sun. Couldn’t come more highly recommended from this writer.
From the press release:
We proudly present the first single from this forthcoming album, entitled ‘Voices’, chalked full of ethereal wave post-punk magic reminiscent of 4AD’s golden era. Here Mandy Clare lays mesmerizing vocals over a bed of drifting, powerfully moving soundscapes. Lights That Change will also be bringing their new permanent lineup to U.K. live audiences soon.”
What others are saying:
“A brooding intro brings us into a sonic world, suggesting something of classic shoegaze flavour whilst shooting firmly for the mysterious unknown future…a radiosexy reinvigoration of early 4AD spirit” – Joe Foster (Creation Records)
