Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Everybody knows that. Everybody also knows that it’s going to be a tough act to follow. That’s why we’re all waiting with bated breath and hopeful optimism that Jared Leto is going to pull this thing off in Suicide Squad.
Will he give an over-the-top performance, or will he nail it out of the park?
Latino Review’s insider, Umberto Gonzalez is saying that Jared Leto is sinking deep into character for his role as the Joker, similar to what the late Heath Ledger did. According to Gonzalez, Leto is staying in character even when he’s behind the scenes.
This is what Gonzalez had to say on the matter.
Take this with a grain of salt, of course, as this is a rumor.
What Does This Mean?
The Joker is a very dark and serious role. As we saw with Ledger’s performance, he had to sink into a cold and sinister mindset to play the character. I can’t speak from experience because I’m not an actor, but playing such a dastardly villain can’t be easy.
It makes sense that Jared Leto would plan to stay in character, even behind the scenes. Once he breaks that wall, it’s likely he’d have to mentally prepare himself before falling back into it.
As for what it means, I think this is good for the movie — if true. Hopefully, it means that Leto will do the character justice on screen. I’m not necessarily expecting Leto to “rival” or “surpass” Heath Ledger’s performance, but I am expecting him to again, do the character justice.
What do you think? Does this rumor spell good news or bad news for Suicide Squad?
