Warner Bros. unveiled the new DC Cinematic Universe’s take on the Joker this past week, and the reaction they got was probably not what they were hoping for.
Sporting what looks like a plastic surgical glove, RiFF RAFF-worthy grill and some… interesting tattoo choices, Jared Leto’s Joker is a huge departure from previous movie versions. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but change is scary, and so social media wasted no time tearing it all to shreds.

“So Jared, what’s your vision for the new Joker?” “Well first off obviously he’s ‘Down to Clown…'”

If that’s what the Joker looks like, just imagine the Juggalette Harley Quinn we’re getting.

This is a Joker for the leather-trenchcoat-wearing, Crow-loving, wallet-on-a-chain types who have always been the Joker’s biggest fans.

I have often said there’s no wrong way to portray the Joker, as long as you do the basics. Now, I’m not sure. pic.twitter.com/2p5V6ojxwb

I love the idea of The Joker taking time to carefully tattoo “Ha” all over his body. The Joker, carefully applying bactene and moisturizer.
— Anthony Carboni (@acarboni) April 25, 2015
Joker’s ‘Damaged’ is as subtle as the guy who writes ‘Bat + Man’ in a game of Pictionary. We get it! But…you’re kinda missing the point
— Space Jam (@Sir_JD) April 25, 2015
so the new joker definitely vapes right

Boy, if you didn’t like Jared Leto’s take in the Joker, you’re going to hate the new Harley Quinn… pic.twitter.com/7q84jojkA5

To be fair though, fans also put up a helluva fit when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker in The Dark Knight, and look how that turned out.
What do you think? Is the fan-hate towards Suicide’s Squad‘s Joker look justified? Or are we just freaking out over something we haven’t even really seen yet?
Some of these are hilarious.
I’ll reserve judgement until I see how Leto handles the character. This look could work depending on the tone of the film, and it’s worth noting that we only see the top half of Joker.
