If you were worried about the tone and look of Suicide Squad, you shouldn’t be. It looks like David Ayer has everything covered.
He unveiled an image of Task Force X all lined up, the elite squad of supervillians that will be protecting the world in Suicide Squad.
Where’s the Pic, Yo?
From left to right, we have Adam Beach as Slipknot (rumored), Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and finally Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.
Obviously missing from the group is Joker, which leads me to believe that Ayer is definitely saving his true unveil for later. Some believe — me included — that the image he released of Jared Leto as the Joker was just to drum up attention for the film. Or, maybe he screwed up and due to fan reactions he’s changing the look?
The group shot is pleasingly dark in tone. Take note of Harley Quinn’s outfit which is definitely a throwback to her retro attire. Her thigh tattoos might indicate that Joker will have them too.
Of course, they’re all standing in front of a Belle Reve sign.
What Is Belle Reve?
In the comics, Belle Reve penitentiary is both a prison and sanatorium, serving as home to various metahumans and supervillains from the DC Universe. It’s located in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, near the Gulf of Mexico, surrounded by miles upon miles of swampland.
Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis in Suicide Squad), establishes Task Force X and eventually chooses Belle Reve is their base of operations.
What Does Deadshot Look Like with His Mask On?
Ayer also unveiled Will Smith’s version of Deadshot in a solo image. Say what you will about Smith taking on the role, but that suit is awesome.
Although, I have to admit his cybernetic eye looks a bit silly in the photo.
Suicide Squad is currently filming and hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
