The developer of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us has announced their next game… and it’s definitely not what we were expecting.
Telltale has a long, long history with adapting other stories into adventure games, but this one takes it to the next level. Their next project is called Minecraft: Story Mode, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a story-driven Minecraft spin-off.
Here’s everything we know so far.
It was revealed as a “playable” press release.
Remember Info Quest? Well this time it’s Info Quest II, and it’s how Mojang revealed this new game.
It’s Telltale doing Telltale.
Despite it’s insane premise, Telltale is sticking to their guns gameplay-wise. Story Mode will be an episodic adventure game set in the world of Minecraft with “an original story, driven by player choice.”
It will not require Minecraft to play.
It will be a collaborative effort.
Mojang will be co-developing the game with Telltale, in an effort to make it as “as Minecrafty as possible.”
It won’t be the story of Steve, or explain the world of Minecraft.
Don’t be expecting a backstory on why everything is so blocky, or where Steve (the name of the default skin) came from. In Mojang’s words, it’s just a “cool game.”
It will be out in 2015.
The first episode is out next year, and like everything Telltale does these days, it’ll be available on just about every device under the sun including consoles, PC, and mobile devices.
