Release Date: March 20
The next installment in the Divergent series, adapted from a series of young adult novels, finds a new director, but keeps the original cast (led by Shailene Woodley). The first film wasn’t the Hunger Games-level hit that the studio was hoping for, but it still made enough to guarantee at least two more sequels after this one.
7. The Gunman
Release Date: March 20
Sean Penn wants that Liam Neeson money, and has signed on to this mid-budget action movie as a former Special Forces soldier who must clear his name… by killing a bunch of dudes. It’s by the director of the original Taken and The Transporter though, so at least we can expect a pretty decent level of quality. Idris Elba, Javier Bardem, Ray Winstone co-star.
8. Get Hard
Release Date: March 27
The producer of Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy makes his feature film debut, pairing Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in one of the strangest comedic duos I can imagine. Ferrell stars as a millionaire who’s about to be sent to jail, hiring Kevin Hart’s character to toughen him up before he’s locked up. Shenanigans ensue I’m sure.
9. Home
Release Date: March 27
DreamWorks Animations sole film for the year (they’ve been releasing two or more annually for the past half a decade) adapts Adam Rex’s children’s book, The True Meaning of Smekday. The film centers around an alien race who invades earth to make it their new home, relocating the humans to a desert planet. One human girl, played by Rihanna (yes, that Rihanna) manages to escape, and teams with an exiled alien played by Jim Parsons. Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin co-star. If there’s one thing DreamWorks does best, it’s assemble one hell of a voice cast.
10. Serena
Release Date: March 27
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence re-team for what should’ve been another fantastic film. Instead, all reports indicate that it’s somewhere in between shockingly mediocre and a steaming bag of disappointment. What a shame!
