Now that Halloween is over with, expect your TV line-up to go full-on Christmas any day now. Instead of claymation elves and red-nosed reindeer though, Lifetime has chosen to go in a slightly different direction; one that involves a bit more grump,
The first trailer for the movie, appropriately titled Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, is surprisingly self-aware, and extraordinarily campy. It still has the brilliant casting decision of getting Aubrey Plaza to voice the cat going for it though, and I think the fact that it looks and feels like an elaborate YouTube parody is going to be either really endearing or really dumb to most people.
Here’s that trailer.
In case it wasn’t painfully clear from the trailer. The premise of this movie is basically that Grumpy Cat lives in a mall pet shop, but after being passed over for adoption year after year, she’s become pretty curmudgeonly. She meets a 12-year-old girl named Chrystal though, and the two bond over the fact that Chrystal can somehow hear Grumpy Cat talk (or I guess, psychically project?).
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever will premiere on November 29 at 8PM ET/PT on Lifetime.
