The official trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian dropped. You may remember recently, we got a more lighthearted look at the crew of the Ares 3, the ship that will be making the journey to Mars in the film.
This time around, there’s not quite as much kidding around. Although, Matt Damon’s sarcasm and wit do shine through at several points especially when he says he’s going to have to “science the shit” out of his survival. What can I say, I’m easily amused?
If you haven’t seen the official trailer yet, give it a watch:
Who Else Do We See Here?
In the previous promo, we got to see most of the crew of the Ares 3, but some of them were left out — like Kristen Wiig’s character. In this trailer, it looks like we get to see everyone.
Matt Damon’s takes the lead as Mark Watney. Alongside him is Michael Pena as the pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as the Ares 3 commander Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as Aleks Vogel, and Kata Mara as “computer expert” Beth Johanssen. Those who were previously absent in the promo are Chiwetel Ejiofor as Venkat Kapoor, Jeff Daniels as NASA director Teddy Sanders, and Kristen Wiig as Annie Montrose. Sean Bean is also crammed in there somewhere as Mitch Henderson, let’s hope he doesn’t die in this role!
According to the official synopsis — and from what we can see in the trailer — Mark Watney will end up stranded and left for dead on Mars after a huge storm. He does successfully get a message to NASA and his crew that he’s alive and well on the planet, but he’ll need to use a bit of ingenuity to survive in the meantime.
The film is based on a novel by Andy Weir — called The Martian — that was published in 2012.
As for the movie it’s set to hit theaters on November 25th. Any thoughts you’d like to share?
