Pre-Production on X-Men Apocalypse is in full swing, and that means plenty of casting announcements. In addition to Olivia Munn being announced as Psylocke, Bryan Singer tweeted that Lucas Till as Havok (aka Alex Summers)will be returning to the X-Verse in X- Apocalypse. In what capacity, however, remains unknown.
Where did we last see Havok?
We last saw him in Vietnam, a prisoner of the military about to be shipped off for genetic testing courtesy of William Stryker. Lucky for him, Mystique was on hand to free him and send him home. Unfortunately he sat out the rest of Days of Future Past, but it seems he’s not out of the picture yet.
How will we see him in X-Men: Apocalypse?
It’s a little harder to gauge how he will be used, though there are a few possibilities. First, Havok may now be a teacher at Professor Xavier’s school, as he is a long time veteran of the team. Second, Havok may show up on the side of Apocalypse as one of his horsemen given his past mistreatment, though that seems unlikely given his more (admittedly begrudging) compassionate characterization. Lastly, it is possible he’s been sitting in the shadows and is thrown into the chaos caused by the conflict with Apocalypse, though that seems unlikely.
Alex’s brother Scott (Cyclops) is one of the leads in Apocalypse. What does that mean for the film?
Not as much as you’d think, according to Bryan Singer. Back during the production of X-Men: First Class, he commented on their relation, “It wouldn’t physically fit for him to be the brother of Cyclops. We take some liberties on that. There are notions, but, um, I don’t want to give away certain interrelations, but let’s just say there will be some things that do adhere to the comic books and do so in a way the fans will get a kick out of.”
Though it’s very possible Singer will go back on his previous statement, it’s more likely Alex and Scott will be more distantly related, perhaps as cousins. Either way, given their similar powers it would make sense for Havok to help Scott control his optic blasts in the same way Xavier helped Havok focus his powers in First Class.
How big a role will Havok have overall?
It’s hard to say, as Havok was merely a supporting player in First Class and had a mere (but memorable) cameo in Days of Future Past. It’s a fair bet, given the size of the cast and the later announcement of Till, it will be closer to a cameo. However, and it may be just wishful thinking, it’s very possible a story element could be Havok going evil and Cyclops needs to bring him back from Apocalypse’s grasp. We’ll know more as more material is leaked out.
