9 Nicolas Cage Films That Show Off That Man’s Crazy Range

  1. The Rock

The Rock

The Rock is widely regarded as one of the all-time best action movies, and it’s definitely a film that helped cement Michael Bay as Hollywood’s go-to action guy. Cage surprised critics who expected a slightly more high-brow follow-up to his Oscar win, but at least he picked a popcorn movie as good as The Rock. If nothing else, this is Nic Cage at his action star finest, and having Sean Connery at his side certainly didn’t hurt.

  1. Raising Arizona

Raising Arizona

The Coen Brothers have always had impeccable taste in casting, so you know if they want Nicolas Cage, he’s the right man for the job. Anyone who watches Raising Arizona and can still say the actor doesn’t have a talent for comedy, really needs to consider if they’ve lost their funny bone.

  1. Adaptation

Adaptation

Adaptation finds Cage once again playing two characters. This time he plays a struggling screenwriter as well as his own twin brother. Making things even weirder, said screenwriter is actually a fictional version of Charlie Kaufman, the actual screenwriter on the movie. Yeah, this film is pretty weird, even for a Spike Jonze project. It’s not every day you get to seriously call a Nic Cage performance brilliant, but hey, the guy’s got real talent.

  1. Leaving Lost Vegas

Leaving Lost Vegas

Leaving Lost Vegas is not only Cage’s first win at the Golden Globes, it’s also his first and only Oscar (for shame Academy!). It’s certainly the highlight of the “serious” side to his career, and the amount of subtly he manages to bring to the performance is impressive for any actor, much less one as… enthusiastic as Nic Cage.
