After it’s third week at the box office, Avengers: Age of Ultron reeled in $38.8 million. So far, it has grossed $372-million officially making it one of the biggest movies of 2015.
Age of Ultron is now the third fastest movie to reach $350 million in just 16 days. The original Avengers is in spot number one, having reached the limit in 10 days back in 2012. The Dark Knight is in second place with a record of 14 days back in 2008.
When it comes to worldwide numbers, Age of Ultron surpassed a $1 billion gross settling it in at spot number 8 of the highest grossing movies of all time. Iron Man 3 is in spot number 7 with $1.21 billion.
Since Disney owns Marvel, it now has four movies in the highest grossing films list. We already mentioned that Ultron and Iron Man 3 are on the list, but they also have The Avengers with $1.51-billion at spot number 3 and Frozen with $1.27-billion at spot number 6. That’s pretty impressive.
With The Force Awakens dropping in December, will Disney end up with another movie on that list? Will the new Star Wars overthrow Age of Ultron and take the title of biggest movie in 2015? It’s certainly possible.
Numbers are Boring, What Does This Mean?
In short, Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the biggest movies in North America for the year, but also across the world. Marvel has seen tremendous success with The Avengers series and this will only work to ensure their presence for years to come — which is a good thing for all of us comic book lovers.
It’s clear that comic films have just as much draw at the box office as other films, if not more so. In the long run, it’s more likely we’ll see future comic adaptations on the big screen, perhaps involving characters we never thought we’d see before.
It sure will be interesting to see how long Age of Ultron can remain on that highest grossing movies of all time list.
