Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Leaked Miniatures Show Return Of Rogue Squadron?

Is Poe Dameron their flight leader?

If you recall from our Rogue Squadron canon catch-up article, we theorized that the X-Wing squadron we see in the film could in fact be the successors to the famous fighter group from the original trilogy and the old expanded universe.

Well, thanks to some leaked photos of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens X-Wing miniature game expansion, it seems that perhaps Luke and Wedge’s legacy has lived on.

Let’s see those leaked photos.

Box-Front

Here’s the box for the expansion. We get a really good look at the new T-70 X-wings here going up against some First Order TIE Fighters. This is also worth noting it’s the first time we’ve seen these ships fire their laser canons.

Box-Back-2

Here’s what looks like the back of the box, featuring the pieces you need to play the game. The ship models, asteroid markers, dice, the turning markers, damage indicators, lock indicators, and the ship/pilot cards.

There’s also a screenshot of the flavor text:

Box-Back

Here’s what it says, in case you’re having trouble reading:

“A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

It is a time of uncertainty. Unrest grips the galaxy as the influence of the First Order spreads, but a glimmer of hope remains in the heroic forces of the Resistance. As they struggle against the dark might of the enemy, these brave heroes may yet awaken the skill and strength needed to forge a new future…

X-Wing is a fast-paced game of tactical space combat in the Star Wars universe. Players control starfighters from either the Resistance or the First Order, outfit them with a variety of pilots, special weapons and upgrades, and attempt to outmaneuver their opponents.

The box contains everything two players need to get started playing X-Wing, including painted plastic ships, custom dice, cards, tokens, and a Learn to Play guide. Advanced rules and special missions are also included to let players take their game to the next level.

Man your ships! And may the Force be with you!”

So, where’s the stuff about Rogue Squadron?

Well, if you take a closer look at that back of the box picture:

Upgrade-Cards

You’ll notice a card that you can partially see of an X-Wing called “- ue Ace.” There are only two possible words it could be, “Blue” or “Rogue.” It’s more likely it’ll be blue, but we’d love to hold out hope that Rogue Squadron has lived on all these years.

It seems the TIE Fighter squadrons are also organized the same way in the First Order as they were under the Empire, as fans of the game TIE Fighter will remember. Maybe we’ll see the return of Black squadron as well? We can only hope.
