Current X-Men Universe Coming to an End, Does That Open the Door for Marvel?

Hugh Jackman claimed some time ago that Wolverine 3 — or The Wolverine — would be his last film as the character Logan. He also took to Instagram recently to pay homage to the character, saying that he was suiting up “one last time.”

This news follows a rumor that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the end of Bryan Singer’s foray into the world since he started back in 2000. The rumor comes from reliable tipster Umberto Gonzalez of Latino Review.

What Does This Mean?

To reiterate, Bryan Singer — and possibly Hugh Jackman — will not be returning for future X-Men films. That does not mean there won’t be any more X-Men movies. It’s difficult to imagine someone else taking on the role of Wolverine, but it was bound to happen someday.

The news may not be as grim as it seems, however. While this marks the “end of an era” as Gonzalez so eloquently put it, it does open up new possibilities. Perhaps, the X-Men universe will finally merge with the rest of Marvel’s?

Does this actually open the doors for Marvel and allow them the license to use X-Men characters in their superhero films? Imagine, for a moment, Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm fighting alongside the Avengers. Gambit, Jubilee or Beast fighting alongside Thor. Iron Man teaming up with Professor Xavier, or the Hulk taking on Magneto.

Whatever it is you imagine and dream, it’s sure to be wild. Maybe this news isn’t so bad after all?

What do you think? Will we see X-Men characters join the rest of our beloved superheroes someday soon?
