Independence Day saw Bill Pullman playing the POTUS, Thomas J. Whitmore, during a time of crisis; a time when otherwordly beasts invaded our planet to bring about humanity’s demise. Pullman — with the help of many high-profile actors like Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Mary McDonnell, and crazy-ass Randy Quaid — fought back and prevented the aliens from invading.
Independence Day 2 will see a new president taking on that role, played by Sela Ward. She will play President Lanford in the new film.
What’s Going on With Independence Day 2?
Ward will join the current cast which includes Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Independence Day 2 will see the world’s nations working together to mount a defense against future alien attacks. Naturally, they’ll be using recovered alien tech to beef up their security.
Perhaps something goes wrong with the recovered tech?
Roland Emmerich penned the script for the sequel, and he will also be directing and producing the movie. He will be joined by producers Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, Harold Kloser, James A Woods and Nicolas Wright. Ute Emmerich will serve as an executive producer.
The production is said to start sometime this month, and Independence Day 2 will hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
