Recently we revealed the writers for Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel film, which will be the studio’s first female driven title.
Collider is now reporting that Angelina Jolie is being considered to direct Captain Marvel. She should have plenty of time to sign-on with the project, as the film is set to release in 2018.
Is Jolie a Good Choice to Direct?
Jolie has the experience to direct under her belt, with credits like Unbroken, and In the Land of Blood and Honey. Plus, there’s the fact that she is a star herself. It’s likely that she will be a bigger name than whoever is cast to play Captain Marvel.
Of course, there is the question of whether or not Jolie could handle Marvel’s creative restrictions. Wonder Woman’s director Michelle MacLaren walked away because of creative differences, and Warner Bros handles the creation process similarly.
Marvel Studios does place limitations on a project to ensure each film in their arsenal has a certain tone and consistency. While directors are allowed to be creative and inject a bit of personality into their work, it has to be done within the confines of Marvel’s boundaries. Needless to say, Jolie’s previous work has been quite artistic. It’s possible she may walk away from the project like MacLaren.
Only time will tell. What do you think of Jolie potentially signing-on to direct Captain Marvel?
